Answer 12 yes/no questions about your website, business information and reputation. You get a score out of 100 and the three fixes that matter most.

Self-check

Based only on your answers. This tool does not query ChatGPT or any other AI system.

  1. 1. Is your business described the same way (name, what you do, where) on your website, Google profile, LinkedIn and directories?
  2. 2. Does your website have an About page that clearly says who you are, what you offer and where you operate?
  3. 3. Do you use structured data (for example Organization or LocalBusiness) that matches the information visible on your pages?
  4. 4. Do your service pages answer common customer questions directly, in plain sentences? For example short FAQ sections or “What does … cost?” answers.
  5. 5. Is your business mentioned on independent websites such as news sites, industry media, associations or partners?
  6. 6. Does your business appear in third-party lists, comparisons or directories for your category and city?
  7. 7. Do you have recent reviews on Google and on review platforms relevant to your industry?
  8. 8. Are your main pages indexed in Google and Bing and accessible without logging in?
  9. 9. Does your robots.txt allow the search crawlers of AI services you want to be found by?For example OAI-SearchBot (OpenAI) or PerplexityBot. Answer “Not sure” if you have never checked.
  10. 10. Is your important content in the page text, not only in images, PDFs or scripts?
  11. 11. Do you publish content that shows real expertise, such as named authors, your own examples or data?
  12. 12. Have you checked what AI assistants currently say about your business and competitors?

What this self-check covers

When someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google’s AI features for a recommendation, the answer is put together from many sources: websites, business profiles, directories, reviews and articles. Whether your business appears depends on whether these systems can find clear, consistent and trustworthy information about it.

The 12 questions cover the signals you can influence:

  • Consistent business information: the same name, description, services and locations on your website, your Google profile and elsewhere.
  • Clear pages: an About page and service pages that answer customer questions in plain sentences – the core of answer engine optimisation (AEO).
  • Structured data: machine-readable information about your organisation that matches what your pages say.
  • Mentions and sources: independent websites, lists and directories that confirm what you say about yourself – the core of generative engine optimisation (GEO).
  • Reviews: recent reviews on Google and platforms relevant to your industry.
  • Technical access: indexed pages, content in the page text and a robots.txt that does not block the AI crawlers you want.

How the score is calculated

Each question has a weight. Items that usually matter most, such as consistent information, independent mentions and indexed pages, count more than smaller items. Every “Yes” adds its weight; “No” and “Not sure” add nothing. The result is a score out of 100.

The score shows how well prepared your business is, not whether AI assistants mention you today. That depends on the question asked, on your competitors and on decisions the platforms make themselves.

How to use the result

Start with the three fixes the tool shows. They are the highest-weighted gaps in your answers.

  • Fix your own information first. Consistent business details and clear pages are fully in your control and help normal search as well.
  • Then work on independent sources. Mentions in industry media, directories and lists take longer, but they are what makes your information trustworthy to AI systems. Earn them; bought links and fake reviews do more harm than good.
  • Check the foundations. If your main pages are not indexed or cannot be read without scripts, fix that before anything else.
  • Test the result. Ask a few AI assistants the questions your customers ask and see what they say about you and your competitors. Note the answers and repeat every few months.

Be wary of anyone who promises that ChatGPT will recommend you. The honest version is: you can make your business easier to understand and confirm. Read how AI search optimisation works, or start with a free SEO audit that includes a first look at your AI visibility.

FAQ

AI visibility self-check: common questions

Does this tool check what ChatGPT says about my business?

No. It is a self-check based only on your answers. It does not query ChatGPT or any other AI system, and nothing you enter leaves your browser.

Can I make ChatGPT recommend my business?

No one can guarantee that. AI platforms decide what they show. What you can do is make accurate, consistent information about your business easy to find and confirm – which makes it more likely to be used.

What is the difference between GEO and AEO?

AEO (answer engine optimisation) works mainly on your own pages, so answers are easy to find and use. GEO (generative engine optimisation) looks at your business across the web – profiles, directories, reviews and independent sources. See GEO in detail and AEO in detail.

Do I still need normal SEO?

Yes. Many AI search features use search results and indexed pages as sources, so a website that does not rank or is not indexed is also hard for AI systems to use.

How often should I check my AI visibility?

Every few months is enough for most businesses. Ask the same questions your customers would ask, note the answers and compare over time.
