How people search for home services
Home services have some of the most direct search behaviour of any industry. There are broadly three patterns:
- Urgent — “emergency plumber”, “AC not cooling”, “electrician near me open now”. The customer calls within minutes, usually one of the first few businesses they see.
- Planned — “deep cleaning before moving out”, “annual AC service”, “movers for a two-bedroom apartment”. The customer compares two or three options on price signals, reviews and how easy it is to get a quote.
- Recurring — regular cleaning, pest control contracts, maintenance plans. The customer is choosing a long-term provider and looks harder at trust and consistency.
Each pattern needs different things from your website and profile. Urgent searches are won on proximity, availability and a phone number that gets answered. Planned and recurring searches are won on clear service pages, pricing signals and reviews that describe real jobs.
Service areas: the core challenge
Most home service businesses don’t have customers coming to them — they go to the customer. That creates a specific problem. Google’s map results lean heavily on where your business is located, but you want work across a city or region.
We solve this from two sides. On the Local SEO side, your Google Business Profile is set up as a service-area business with accurate areas and services. On the website side, we build service pages and a focused set of area pages that can rank in organic results where the map pack doesn’t reach.
The area pages have to be real. A page for a district should say something useful about working there: typical property types, access or parking issues, response times, common jobs. A page with only the district name swapped rarely helps and can undermine trust in the rest of the site.
Seasonality shapes the plan
Demand in home services rarely stays flat. In the Gulf, AC maintenance and repair searches rise sharply as temperatures climb. Pest control has its own seasonal peaks. Moving companies see demand shift around lease renewals and school years. In Germany, heating service demand moves with the weather.
SEO takes time to build, so waiting until the busy season starts is too late. We plan content, profile updates and page improvements to be in place before your peak, then use quieter months for foundations such as technical fixes, new service pages and reviews.
Built for people searching on a phone
Most home service searches happen on mobile, often in a hurry. The page needs to load quickly, show the phone number and WhatsApp button without scrolling, confirm the service and area, and make it obvious how fast you can come. Our technical SEO checks cover speed and mobile usability, but for home services we also look at the practical details: is the number tappable, is the form short, do the hours on the page match the profile?
Common pitfalls in home services SEO
- Claiming 24/7 when you aren’t. Customers who call at midnight and get voicemail leave bad reviews — and the visibility you earned turns against you.
- Listing every trade on one profile. A cleaning company that also adds plumbing and electrical categories dilutes its relevance for its main service.
- Virtual offices and fake addresses. Setting up listings at addresses you don’t operate from breaks Google’s guidelines and can get profiles suspended.
- Lead-generation directories instead of your own site. Paying per lead on third-party platforms can work short term, but you don’t own the visibility, and you compete on price with everyone else listed there.
- Unanswered calls. The best SEO can’t fix a phone that rings out. We look at missed-call data with you, because it often reveals lost jobs that are cheaper to recover than new ones.
What we track
For a home service business, rankings are a means to an end. We track:
- phone calls from the website and Google Business Profile
- WhatsApp clicks and quote requests
- which service and area pages generated each enquiry
- map visibility across a grid covering your service area
Where your booking system or CRM allows, we connect enquiries to completed jobs so you can see which services and areas are most profitable from search — not just which get the most clicks.
Trades we work with
- Cleaning — residential, deep cleaning, move-in/move-out, office cleaning
- HVAC and AC maintenance — servicing, repair, duct cleaning, installation
- Plumbing — emergency call-outs, leaks, water heaters, drainage
- Electrical — repairs, installations, inspections
- Pest control — one-off treatments and recurring contracts
- Movers — local and long-distance moves, packing, storage
We work with home service companies in Dubai, across the UAE and in Germany. If you run a different kind of local business, our SEO for local businesses page covers the broader approach.
